'Dylan'

Oil & Palette Knife Technique on Canvas

'Dylan' was my first “aura” painting; a happy accident born from the edges of a portrait. I had been commissioned to paint the ever-enigmatic Bob Dylan, palette knife in hand and music in the air. Between layers of his moody blues and earthy tones, I often found myself with leftover colour that felt too good to waste. 

So, on a blank canvas nearby I began making carefree strokes, creating a visual rhythm to accompany the portrait’s melody. Sometimes I’d even get swept up in the colour wave, mixing more just to keep the flow going. What started as an afterthought soon became a vivid dance of intuition and energy. 

'Dylan' became more than a companion piece; it was a conversation between control and freedom — between the fine details of a face and the untamed expression of feeling.
